Guatemala, here I come!
Tomorrow I embark on a solo adventure to Guatemala!
Guatemala has been on my mind since 2019, traveling through Colombia. During that trip I heard from so many fellow travelers how beautiful, natural, and diverse Guatemala is.
The dream of backpacking Guatemala hasn’t diminished, even throug a global pandemic. The dream has remained in my mind, and finally I’m on my way!
When I travel, I typically only plan a few days out. This keeps me from committing to places long-term if the vibes are off, and allows me the flexibility to stay in a place where the vibes are good.
Prior to my trip, I read my Lonely Planet to get an idea of the major sites and to get a basic route/itinerary in mind.
I then map out this basic route, on a simple calendar hand-drawn in my travel journal.
It’s really basic:
Week 1: Guatemala City to Antigua
Week 2-3: Lake Atitlan
Week 4: Xela
And it continues…
I also don’t want to commit too far ahead, so that when I meet other travelers, I can be open to the experiences they share.
The best experiences I’ve had while traveling have always been those that I learned of WHILE on the road, rather than those that I planned ahead.
So, I have my basic route planned, I have my clothes packed. I have my currency exchanged and my devices charged. I have my journals empty and my books well-loved.
I am ready to explore. Ready to meet other travelers. Ready to feel inspired. Ready to go!
I hope to keep this page up-to-date with my adventures, my thoughts, and my experiences.
Not only in Guatemala, but in life.
If you enjoy reading about travel, about living a life that makes you feel like the badass you are — you’re in the right place.
I’m so glad you’re here. Keep in touch!
